Long Day of Travel

Risking that I'm going to sound like a complainer I'm going to share yet another bad flight experience. This time it wasn't anything on the flight going wrong but it was problems with the airline.

The setting of this story starts in the Las Vegas airport after a 5 day vacation this past June. Needless to say I was a little run down and was just ready to get home. We decide to arrive at the airport plenty early for our flight and good thing we did the line to check in was a nightmare! taking almost an hour to check in we are now waiting in another line for security but this line is moving a little bit faster so at least that's looking up but at this rate we wont have much time to wait in the terminal before our flight is boarding.

After getting through security we have approximately 40 minutes so we grab some Quiznos and sit by the terminal. So for this trip we had flown Allegiant Air because they have really cheap deals to Vegas, but trust me it is NOT worth it. By now our plane is supposed to be boarding so we walk up to the desk and ask what's going on they now say our flight had been delayed an hour. Frustrated we go sit back down and wait.Within 30 minutes the delay time on the screen now says 5 hours... we were furious. Especially because all the other Allegiant flights were running on time. After those 5 hours passed we were told to switch terminals only to be told to switch back once we got there. Anyways we finally were on our flight which had gone from a late morning flight to an evening flight which by the way morning flights are more expensive than evening flights and no where did we receive any compensation.

We land back in Bellingham, WA (I'm from Vancouver so it's really close and cheap to fly from Bellingham). As we await baggage claim my friend Kelly's bag seems to be missing, along with many other people from our flight. They try to tell us they don't have anything to do with it and basically too darn bad. After a 40 minute wait the bags are retrieved and we are driving back to Canada. After landing in a 2 hour boarder wait we finally get back around midnight. That was truly one very long day of travel.

  1. Wow that is brutal, I will definitely be avoiding that company when I go to Vegas in the summer.

It sounds like their customer service matched perfectly with their lack of organization! At least the luggage was only late and not completely lost because that would have forced you to deal with that lame company for an even longer period of time.

Hopefully you have some good flight experiences too! :P

  2. Thanks for pointing out that this company is no good. I will definitely be avoiding them in the future. I also had a similar rough travel day, but it wasn't because of the airline, it was because we were traveling on standby. My two friends and I went to Toronto for a UFC event, luckily one of my friends works for Air Canada so we got cheaper flights on the condition that we flew on standby. The way there was easy, but the way back was another story. On the way back we arrived at the Toronto airport around 8 a.m., only to find that there were no flights to Calgary available. So we took a chance and flew to Ottawa to see if our odds were any better there. They weren't, so we flew back to Toronto and tried our luck on every potential flight traveling near Calgary that day. After spending 14 hours in airports and failing to get on over 10 flights, we finally got on a flight to Regina at 10 p.m.. We arrived in Regina late at night, slept on benches until we caught a flight to Calgary at 7 a.m.. It was a long day of travel to say the least, and I was relieved to finally be home.
